Equipment Not Powering On
Safe checks for receivers, speakers, mixers, projectors and other equipment that won't turn on.
- Check the outlet: plug in something else you know works, like a phone charger or lamp.
- Check power strips: make sure the switch is on and the strip's breaker hasn't tripped. Many stage power strips have a reset button.
- Check the power cable and power supply: fully seated at both ends? If the equipment uses an external power adapter, check its light (if it has one).
- Check the power switch on the equipment, and any rear-panel switch.
- Battery-powered items: fresh batteries, inserted the right way, with clean contacts.
- Projectors: after a power interruption, some projectors need a cool-down before they restart. Wait, then try again. Check for warning lights and look up the pattern in the manual.
- Powered speakers: check the power switch, the volume control on the speaker, and any standby/auto-on setting.
Stop and contact us if you smell burning, see smoke or scorch marks, hear crackling inside the unit, the power cord is damaged, or a breaker trips again right after reset. Unplug it and don't use it. Never open equipment, bypass a fuse or breaker, or remove a ground pin.
