Buying vs. Renting Theatre Equipment

Not sure whether to buy or rent? Here is a simple way to decide.

Rent when

  • You need the equipment for one production or one season.
  • You need extra channels for a big show beyond the system you own.
  • You want to try a system before committing your budget.

Rentals run Monday to Monday, timed so gear arrives for tech week. They are booked through Broadway Media, Stage Gear's exclusive rental partner. See How Stage Gear rentals work.

Buy when

  • You use the equipment for every show, concerts, assemblies or events.
  • Rental costs across several productions would add up to more than owning.
  • You want equipment configured permanently for your space.

Some rental systems match systems we sell, so you can rent first and buy the same setup later. Our Rentals page shows which ones.
